Park County schools will reopen today, district official announced, despite a teachers strike entering its second week.
Classrooms will be staffed by teachers who chose to come back to work as well as licensed substitute teachers that the district hired. Other staff members will also be assisting with school operations.
The South Park Education Association, the teachers union, went on strike last week as district and union officials continued to disagree over salary increases in a proposed contract.
Union members have started petitions calling for the resignation of Superintendent Joe Torrez as well as three school board members.
Teachers will picket outside the school administration building today.
