Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland visited Browns Canyon National Monument last Thursday, Oct. 6th.
The Secretary met with county officials and conservation advocates as well as Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service, and Colorado Parks and Wildlife staff. Officials discussed how the 2015 national monument designation has helped strengthen the local economy and raised awareness of outdoor recreation opportunities and challenges in Chaffee County.
The designation of Browns Canyon as a national monument was the culmination of 15 years of advocacy work by Friends of Browns Canyon.
