Although incidence is decreasing and many cases are mild, there are still people in the San Luis Valley experiencing severe illness, and hospitalization.

Transmission of the virus in January was so widespread that halfway back down the slope they are now averaging roughly the same number of new cases as we had at the peak of the Delta wave in the fall. There have been 307 new cases reported in the past week in the SLV, an average of 44 new cases per day. Hospital capacity in Colorado is still somewhat challenged but continues to improve.

Valley-Wide Health Systems and Rio Grande County will be offering vaccines for students and adults on Mondays in February from 10am to 3:30pm at Cliff Corner at Hwy 160 and County Road 14 in Del Norte.
