Salida, CO- The City of Salida is thrilled to announce that it has been awarded a grant of $1,252,815 to fund Downtown ADA and Streetscape Improvements. This significant investment will enhance accessibility and aesthetics in the downtown area, promoting inclusivity and a community atmosphere.
“Congratulations! After a thorough review, I am excited to offer a grant award in the amount of $1,252,815 to assist with the Downtown ADA and Streetscape Improvements project,” said Maria DeCambra, Executive Director of DOLA. “Your project was reviewed based on a variety of factors such as its connection to energy impact, degree of need, measurable outcomes, amount of request, relationship to community goals, level of local match and community support, management capacity, resiliency, and readiness to go. Competition for these limited funds is intense, and we are seeing great demand.
The Downtown ADA and Streetscape Improvements project aims to address critical infrastructure needs by ensuring compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and enhancing the streetscape of the Downtown corridor.
Some of the key pieces of the project include providing bump outs for safer pedestrian crossings, seating areas, bike parking, and landscaping aesthetics, creating compliant ADA ramps, crosswalks, and parking areas, replacing aging water services lines and installing removable bollards for quick and safe closures for parades or other pedestrian mall needs with quick removal for emergency responders when needed
Mayor Shore expressed gratitude for the grant, stating, “This funding will allow us to make significant strides in creating a more accessible and welcoming downtown area for all residents and visitors”. The City of Salida will move forward with this project starting in the summer of 2025.
