The Salida City Council is moving forward with their plan to create more affordable housing.

The council voted unanimously last night on a resolution authorizing the City’s power of Eminent Domain to acquire the D Street Apartments at the corner of First and D Street for the purpose of constructing affordable housing.

The next step is to is to notify the property owners of the city’s intent to acquire the property and get an appraisal done.

If the owners and city cannot agree on a price, then the city could file a petition of condemnation.

Also at last night’s regular meeting, the Salida City Council appointed Ken Brandon, Stephen Smalzel, Reed Govert, and Maura McInerney to the Public Arts Commission.  Named to the Historic Preservation Commission were Steve Harris and Steve Chapman.

Council also extended the state of local emergency due to the increase of Covid-19 cases in the area.
