Last winter, an outdoor hockey rink made it’s debut in Salida. Since then, planning has been ongoing on to make it a permanent feature of the town.
Alan Brown is the project manager for the rink, and he says currently, they are working on purchasing and getting the pieces together for the shade system which would go over and around the rink.
The project had received a big boost in the arm earlier this summer when High Country Bank donated $2500 to the cause, and more recently, HCB matched that donation with another $2500, which, according to Brown means the shade system is basically paid for.
Marketing Director James Bove says the extra money came after bank leadership heard the project could use a bit more of a bump. Leadership also felt it was important to help make sure the new structure was one which would last and be beneficial to the community for years to come.
There is still a lot of work and financial support needed for the project, and currently, COVID-19 has thrown a wrench into the works as well, as the City of Salida had to put a temporary freeze on any funding they were giving to the project.
