Two people were assisted by members of the Saguache County Search and Rescue yesterday morning after they were separated from their party after climbing Crestone Needle.

Custer County Search and Rescue called in Saguache County Search and Rescue for a mutual aid response to assist the two hikers. Four hikers were descending the Needle when they became separated from each other.

Two individuals of the party were able to make it back to their camp at the South Colony Lakes while the other two were separated on the trail. The two stranded hikers were able to activate their GPS and SOS-enabled device and at 4am yesterday, the two were found safe.

You are reminded of some important safety tips if you plan on taking on the unforgiving mountains of Colorado:

Plan your route. Be prepared. And research conditions.
