Commercial truckers are urged to use extreme caution on Highway 50 over Monarch Pass as the only existing eastbound truck ramp is closed through October.

The Colorado Department of Transportation is performing repairs on the emergency truck ramp four miles east of the summit. The runaway truck ramp will not be operable during the entire construction phase.

Additionally, the Colorado State Patrol will oversee intermittent brake inspections and safety checks of commercial motor vehicles near the summit to warn truck drivers of the ramp closure.

Construction projects continue in the area including bridge replacement work that has closed Highway 285 between Antero Junction and Fairplay. This total closure will be in place through mid-October.

The alternate route is Highway 24 and Colorado 9. This will add 15-20 minutes to your travel time.

Other road projects include chip sealing on Highway 285 between Monte Vista and Saguache and resurfacing of Colorado Highway 96 in Custer County from Westcliffe to Wetmore.
