The first long road trip of the year didn’t take long to arrive for the Salida Spartans, as game two saw them head two and a half hours south west to Pagosa Springs to battle the Pirates.
The Salida girls started out fantastic, holding a 5-4 lead three minutes into the game, but would struggle against the Pagosa defensive pressure and fell eventually 64-25.
The boys game would be much tighter. Only a 17-13 game at the half, the Pirates would pull away in the second half to earn a 50-35 win over the Spartans. Salida did see a valiant effort from junior guard Jonah Ellis who finished with a game high 18 points to lead both teams.
