The Buena Vista Demons and Salida Spartans both had high hopes heading to their regional tournament in Carbondale on Tuesday, and both teams would see some exciting finishes with players on the bubble.

The best news on the day came from Chandler Smethers, as the junior would fire a 39 on his back nine to salvage his round and hit the cut line at 85.

For Salida, freshman Ben Clayton tested the cut line as well, shooting an 86 which earned him a playoff with two others at the end of the day. Clayton would bogey the first hole and would miss out after a birdie and a par were made by the competitors from Cedaredge and Holy Family.

The Buena Vista Demons also saw their team score earn a top ten finish, and Quinn Philips would be close to the cut line as well, breaking 90 for his best score of the season. Cole Reavis posted a 95 and Max Johnson a 105.

The Spartans took 14th as a team, with a rough day for the final three, with Aiden Hadley shooting a 95, Brandon Purcell a 107 and Eric O’Connor a 110.
