In a 2-1 vote, the Park County Commissioners have terminated Interim County Manager Mike Smith. Commissioners Dave Wissel and Amy Mitchell supported the decision, citing a lack of trust, while Commissioner Dick Elsner cast the dissenting vote.
Wissel, quoted in The Flume, stated, “It is our role to pick people we have confidence in, and that’s why I will be supporting this resolution to go forward with the removal of Mr. Smith.”
Commissioner Elsner expressed strong opposition, saying, “I could not disagree more. Mike Smith has done an exemplary job… A couple of commissioners seem to be the ones who do not want to follow the law.”
This decision comes amid differing opinions on Smith’s performance and adherence to legal processes.
