The murder trial of Barry Morphew has been moved to Fremont County on the grounds that Morphew could not receive a fair trial in Chaffee County.
Barry Morphew is charged with first-degree murder in the death of his wife Suzanne Morphew, who disappeared form the family’s home in May of 2020.
The murder trial, set for May 3, now will take place in Canon City instead of Salida.
In a court order obtained by the Denver Post, Judge Ramsey Lama said, “This is a high-profile case in a relatively small county will a small jury pool. The media saturation is high… the pretrial publicity in this case has been so massive, pervasive, and prejudicial that the defendant will not receive a fair trial in Chaffee County.”
All future court proceedings will be held at the Fremont County Courthouse in Canon City.
