Barry Morphew appeared in a Chaffee County courtroom yesterday on his voting fraud charges.  He is accused of casting a ballot for Donald Trump in his missing wife’s name months after she vanished in 2020.

Suzanne Morphew was reported missing on Mother’s Day 2020. Barry Morphew was charged with first degree murder a year after her disappearance. District Attorney Linda Stanley dropped the murder charges against Morphew in April of this year, days before his trial was scheduled to begin.

According to the arrest affidavit, Morphew admitted to investigators that he cast Suzanne’s ballot saying, “Just because I wanted Trump to win… I just thought, give him another vote, I figured all these other guys are cheating. I know Suzanne was going to vote for Trump anyway.”

Morphew’s attorney yesterday indicated to Judge Patrick Murphy that they and the prosecution were close to reaching a plea deal. Both sides told the judge that they are confident they can reach a deal in the next three weeks.

Morphew’s next court date is July 21, 2022.
