We have an update to a story we gave you about a San Luis Valley shooting suspect that was arrested in Poncha Springs Tuesday night (June 21).   

The Saguache County Sheriff’s Office is saying that they were dispatched to a residence in Moffat Tuesday night. Upon arrival they found a man by the name of Tracy Freel with a life-threatening gunshot wound to the upper thigh. Freel succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.

The suspect arrested in Poncha Springs was identified as Kenneth Mendenhall Jr. 

The Saguache County Sheriff’s Office took custody of Mendenhall and is currently being held in the Saguache County Jail on the charges of first-degree murder, assault, reckless endangerment, and child abuse.
