Fire destroyed nearly a full city block in Moffat yesterday afternoon.

The fire destroyed three homes, one of which I said to be the first structure ever built in the town of less than 200 residents.

Multiple fire agencies from around the area responded to the blaze that broke out at about 4:30 pm. Firefighters quickly ran out of water while fighting the fire. There are no fire hydrants in the town 40 north of Alamosa, and the closest water is several blocks away at the Moffat School and a fire well about two miles northeast of town.

Official details about the fire have not been released, there is no report of injuries.
