The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has closed multiple highways across the state:
- Highways 165 and 96 in Custer County are closed due to a massive rockslide near McKenzie Junction:
- Highway 96: Closed from Wetmore to Westcliffe.
- Highway 165: Closed just northwest of Rye.
Local traffic may pass through to access properties near the closures. Rocks are actively falling, making the area unsafe for mitigation. Crews will assess the slide today, but the closure is expected to last several days.
- Highway 285 is closed from Fairplay to Kenosha Pass due to high winds and safety concerns.
- I-70 over Vail Pass is also closed.
Drivers are urged to check for updates before traveling and use extreme caution in affected areas.
