An email obtained by KRDO has revealed that 11th Judicial District Attorney Linda Stanley was caught off guard by how quickly state disciplinary authorities issued a ruling to disbar her. Stanley, who oversaw the botched prosecution of Barry Morphew for the alleged murder of his wife Suzanne, is facing disbarment for a series of ethical violations during the high-profile case.
Judges found that Stanley made inappropriate comments to the media during the Morphew trial, failed to properly supervise the prosecution, and launched a retaliatory investigation into the judge overseeing the case. These actions contributed to the dismissal of charges against Barry Morphew, and Stanley’s conduct has since come under significant scrutiny.
In the email to her staff, Stanley suggested that disbarment was the intended outcome all along, implying that it would allow the governor to appoint a Democrat to her position and erase the progress she believes she has made during her tenure.
Despite the ruling, Stanley, through her attorney, has stated that she intends to finish her term as district attorney, which is set to expire in January. If her disbarment is finalized, Colorado’s governor will appoint a temporary replacement until the newly elected district attorney, Jeff Lindsey, who is running unopposed in November, takes office.
