The Salida City Council voted last night in favor of installing lights at the new basketball court in Alpine Park.  The vote was 5-1 with councilman Harald Kasper voting against.

Many area residents spoke out on the lights, most against and a few in favor.  Those against the lights said they were worried that adding lights would attract an undesirable atmosphere at the park, as it is already a place where teenagers congregate at night.

Those in favor said adding the lights will make the park safer.

The vote authorized a change order adding the lights to the Alpine Park project and also stipulated that the lights would be shut off at 8 pm.
