When talking with Coach Amy Peters on Saturday morning, the thought of bringing home a team trophy this year from the 2021 State Championships was not even on her mind.

But fast forwarding to just after 5 pm on Saturday afternoon, the Lake County Panthers boys track and field team was standing on the podium as a group with a runner up finish to Yuma at the Jeffco Stadium.

The team was paced by Anthony Martinez, who brought in four medals, including a championship, two runner ups, and a fourth place. Fabian Jimenez and Jace Peters would also add to the Panthers point total and at just after 3 pm, the math was no longer a question, it was just a matter of waiting it out in the rain to accept the second team trophy this year for the Panthers at a state meet, joining the Lake County girls cross country team as runners up.
