Salida Police Chief Russell Johnson announced that the investigation into the skatepark incident on October 27th has been completed and the victim has been identified.

Chaffee County EMS, Salida Fire Department, and the Salida Police Department were dispatched to the downtown Salida skatepark for an accident on October 27th, 2021.

The caller requested an immediate EMS response and then the call was disconnected. CPR was administered by Salida Fire Department staff on the injured party for 10 minutes.

Due to the severity of the injury, those on scene were unable to regain a pulse.

A subsequent investigation was started by the Salida Police Department. During the investigation, it was determined that an 18-year-old male from Salida, Glenn Ott, rode his bicycle into the skatepark bowl. He attempted a maneuver into the bowl and fell directly on his head, causing major head trauma. Mr. Ott was not wearing any safety equipment during the accident.

A final toxicology report was delivered to the Chaffee County Coroner’s Office this week, finding no drugs or alcohol in Mr. Ott’s system.

The Salida Police Department has since concluded its investigation and the facility has been reopened to the public.

The Salida Police Department, Salida Fire Department, and the City of Salida continue to extend their deepest condolences to the friends and family of the deceased. Salida is a close-knit community, and we are incredibly saddened by the accident that took the life of a young resident.
