SALIDA, Colo.— Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center (HRRMC) is thrilled to welcome board-certified geriatric medicine specialist Erika Altneu, M.D., to HRRMC’s medical staff.
Dr. Altneu sees patients full-time in the Internal Medicine clinic, located within the Outpatient Pavilion on HRRMC’s main campus in Salida.
“I am excited to support the aging community here in Chaffee County. I enjoy taking time with my patients to listen and answer their questions.” said Dr. Altneu. “I take a holistic approach, taking into account the whole individual, not only treating medical conditions in older adults, but honoring their unique story and respecting their autonomy as they age,” added Dr. Altneu.
Dr. Altneu earned her medical degree at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in Farmington, Conn. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine, as well as a fellowship in Geriatric Medicine at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Aurora, Colo.
Following her training, Dr. Altneu worked as a physician for Senior Health First, offering specialty primary care for older adults. She served in multiple leadership roles for Physician Health Partners, an accountable care organization that supports independent primary care in Colorado. In 2020, she received the Physician of the Year award at Saint Anthony Hospital in Lakewood, Colo.
Dr. Altneu specializes in working with older adults and finds her work very rewarding. She focuses on the whole person with the aim of improving quality of life and helping patients and their families navigate the challenges of aging. As a geriatric medicine specialist, Dr. Altneu provides compassionate and comprehensive care including management of chronic diseases, cognitive loss, memory impairment, adverse effects of medications, immobility and balances issues.
Dr. Altneu grew up in Connecticut, lived on the Front Range, and is now excited to make Chaffee County home. When not seeing patients in clinic, Dr. Altneu enjoys skiing, running the trails with her husband and dog, quilting, reading, and cooking.
