Thanks to a generous $1.5 million donation from the Robert and Bernice Delnay Estate, and to contributions made by the community, HRRMC Foundation transferred $1.6 million to HRRMC for the construction costs of the Delnay Guest House. The Delnay Guest House is located on the HRRMC campus and includes 10 unit, four units are designated for overnight charitable accommodation to support HRRMC outpatients receiving treatments at the hospital, their families and caregivers of HRRMC patients, any of which live 30 plus miles from Salida. Hospice families traveling to Salida to support local hospice patients may also stay in these charitable care units. The remaining 6 units are temporary rentals for HRRMC employees.
Robert and Bernice Delnay retired in Salida in the 1980s, after Bob’s career as a chemical engineer with DOW Chemical. The couple lived here, enjoying fishing and hunting together, until approximately 2016. Their belief in a thriving healthcare system, inspired them to leave money to HRRMC Foundation.
Picie Hylton, moved to Salida from Kansas in 1965, after visiting here on frequent family vacations. He established Hylton Lumber in 1967 and built the business over 30 years. When he passed in 1997, his dream was to build a hospice house in Salida. That dream was reignited in 2020 through contributions from Hylton House and the dream expanded to accommodations that support HRRMC patients, family members and caregivers that live 30-plus miles from Salida. Donations from Hylton House to HRRMC Foundation, led to the creation of the Picie Hylton Charitable Fund, which cover operational expenses for the four charitable accommodation units.
