SALIDA, Colo.— A collection of linocut prints with watercolor by artist Ramona Lapsley are on display at Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center (HRRMC) now through June 30 of this year.
Her pieces are inspired by mountainous landscapes, some of her favorite of which are in her backyard of Manitou Springs, including Pikes Peak and Garden of the Gods, as well as the San Juan range and Moab.
“Hospitals are a unique venue for art, as it provides a respite for employees, patients and visitors,” Lapsley said.
Lapsley is originally from Brighton, CO. She earned degrees from Concordia University in Nebraska and the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. She began her teaching career with high school students in Green Bay, WI, but the majority of her career has been teaching Art at Mountainside Elementary School on Ft. Carson, CO.
Lapsley creates her prints by drawing the design on the surface of linoleum knowing that the image will be in reverse. She then carves the image into the linoleum, applies ink with a roller, printing them with black oil based ink, then carving and proofing several times until the image is satisfactory. Finally, the edition is printed on the Takhach press. Each print is then hand colored with watercolors and liquid inks. Lapsley’s prints are currently on display and available for purchase through June 30.
HRRMC displays the work of regional artists each quarter, with an emphasis on the Arkansas Valley. Call 719-530-2217 for more information on exhibiting art at HRRMC.
