Around 11:15 am Chaffee County Search and Rescue South team located the overdue hiker, Andrew Scott, on the Continental Divide Trail roughly where his itinerary plotted him to be.

He is in good health, and plans to continue hiking.

Chaffee SAR teams were notified yesterday afternoon by his family after he had not checked in via satellite messenger for almost 72 hours. They were able to provide us with a trip itinerary and excellent descriptions of his gear and hiking ability.

After a hasty search of his last known point and interviews with other CDT hiker provided no further information yesterday evening, a full scale search commenced this morning. Thankfully he was found uninjured and in good spirits but without battery power in his satellite messenger.

CCSAR South reminds anyone planning a backcountry trip to provide friends or family a detailed itinerary and gear description, and a reasonable schedule and plan for communicating trip progress. In this case, though technology failed, we were able to rather easily locate the subject using the information left with family.

Original Story: You are being asked to be on the look out for a missing hiker of the Continental Divide Trail.

66-year-old Andrew Scott started from Twin Lakes on the CDT trail Saturday morning.  His last known position was Virginia Peak on Saturday afternoon.

If you or a friend have been hiking between Twin Lakes and Monarch Pass in the past four days and have seen Scott, please call Chaffee County Dispatch.
