The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has announced a change in the planned overnight full closures on Highway 50 over Blue Mesa Reservoir. Originally scheduled to begin today, these closures have been canceled. Instead, CDOT will implement extended flagging operations on the U.S. 50 Lake Fork Bridge after Labor Day to conduct repair work.
Crews will work on the bridge overnight, with intermittent access for approved vehicles. Motorists should anticipate longer wait times when crossing the bridge during these operations. Larger vehicles, including RVs, motorhomes, trucks pulling trailers, semis, and commercial buses, will continue to be detoured via County Road 26.
Starting today, one lane of the Middle Bridge will be open twice daily for alternating traffic between 6:30 AM to 9:30 AM and 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM, seven days a week.
In addition, the replacement of the Howard Creek Bridge near the fire station is underway, resulting in a 24/7 single-lane closure on Highway 50 through October. Combined with the ongoing resurfacing of Highway 50 from Salida to Howard, motorists are advised to allow an extra 30 to 45 minutes for travel.
