The Highway 50 bridge over Blue Mesa Reservoir reopened to limited traffic for the July 4th weekend. Beginning today, emergency vehicles and smaller vehicles are allowed to cross the bridge west of Gunnison twice daily—from 6:30 to 8:30 in the morning and in the afternoon from 4:30 to 6:30.
Passenger cars, pickup trucks, vans, motorcycles, and emergency vehicles are permitted to cross during these times. Heavier vehicles, including campers, RVs, trucks pulling trailers, semis, and buses, must continue to use the County Road 26 detour.
The bridge was initially shut down after federal highway officials found a crack during an inspection in April. Crews are continuing repairs to ensure the bridge’s safety and longevity.
