Highway 291 between Salida and Highway 285 will be renamed the Henry Lines Memorial Highway.
House District 60 Representative Jim Wilson introduced the legislation making the name change possible.
Henry Raymond Lines was drafted into the Army on September 18, 1917. One year later, to the day, he was killed by a high explosive shell in France. He died just two months before the signing of the Armistice and was the only soldier from Salida who died in WWI.
The local American Legion Post is also named in his honor.
The highway renaming legislation was the last bill introduced by Representative Wilson. The end of the current legislative session also brought an end to Wilson’s 8-year career as a State Representative.
