The Colorado Department of Transportation in cooperation with prime contractor, United Companies, is suggesting that travelers use alternate routes next week for County Road 128 as wait times are expected to be longer than anticipated (at the US 285 and County Road 128 intersection). Paving will occur all week beginning on Monday, June 17. The intersection will not be passable while the asphalt cures, which requires closing the intersection for extended intervals.
Traffic Impacts
- 10-minute delays expected for vehicles traveling in both directions on US 285 in the paving zone and at the Visitor’s Center entrance
- Extensive delays expected at the US 285 and County Road 128 intersection — please use alternate routes
- A shared lane for vehicles traveling west on US 50 and those turning right (north) onto US 285
- Road-base lane on US 285 prior to paving (motorcycles should use extra caution)
- Width restriction of 12 feet until June 21 from MP 126.5 to 127.0 on US 285 (24/7 restriction)
- Width restriction of 10 feet beginning third week of June from MP 210 to 216.5 on US 50 (weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.)
The project is slated to realign and reconstruct the existing three-way configuration into a four-way signalized intersection to improve safety and traffic flow, as well as resurface seven miles of US 50 from the US 50/285 junction to Maysville, mile point 210-217.
Project improvements include:
- Realign and reconstruct the existing three-way configuration into a four-way signalized intersection
- Create a safer intersection by correcting the sharp curve radius that currently exists
- Align US 285 with Kimberlin Lane allowing traffic to enter US 285 from Kimberlin Lane using the new traffic signal
- Lengthen the right turn-lane from westbound US 50 to northbound 285 allowing for better traffic flow
- Replace existing temporary signals with permanent signals
- Re-surface approximately seven miles of roadway on US 50 from the US 50/285 intersection to just west of Maysville
- Replace current signage and delineators at the US 50/285 intersection and along the seven-mile re-surfacing section
Typical working hours will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. Some night work may occur to minimize traffic impacts and to keep the traveling public safe when signal mast arms are being installed.
