Heart of the Rockies Radio, in partnership with the Heart of the Rockies Chamber of Commerce and the Vaqueros, is rallying community support for this year’s Chaffee County Shop with a Cop program. This initiative helps local deserving students from Buena Vista and Salida enjoy a day of Christmas shopping with members of law enforcement.

The program pairs students with officers from the Buena Vista and Salida police departments, deputies from the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office, troopers from the Colorado State Patrol, and representatives from Parks and Wildlife and the Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area. Students selected by their teachers are treated to a shopping experience for their families, along with lunch and ice cream during the outing.

To raise funds for this special program, a Chamber of Commerce “Business After Hours” event will be held at the Golf Cabin Bar and Grill on Friday, October 11th. For a $10 entry fee, which goes directly to support the Shop with a Cop program, attendees can enjoy food, drinks, and a silent auction.

In addition to the Business After Hours, a four-person golf scramble will take place earlier that afternoon. The entry fee for the scramble is $100 per team. Spots are limited, so contact the Salida Golf Course to reserve your place.

Last year, more than 20 students and their families benefited from the Shop with a Cop program. Your participation and donations will help ensure that even more kids can enjoy a Merry Christmas this year. If you’d like to donate an item for the silent auction, please call Heart of the Rockies Radio at 719-539-2575.

Support this wonderful cause and help make a difference in the lives of local students!
