The Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve opened yesterday following guidelines set forth by state and local health authorities.
The Great Sand Dunes is using a phased approach to opening. Under Phase 1, access to the main park road was opened yesterday, along with Medano Pass primitive road, dunes parking area, all trails, and all picnic areas.
Still closed are the visitor center, Pinon Flats campground and overnight backcountry access. These areas could open with Phase 2 in mid June.
