Governor Jared Polis has called a special session of the Colorado state legislature, set to begin on Monday, to address property tax relief. The decision comes in response to two upcoming ballot measures—Proposition 108 and Initiative 50—set for the November vote, which the governor believes could threaten funding for essential education services across the state.
House Speaker Julie McCluskie echoed these concerns, stating that the ballot initiatives could also undermine funding for fire response, healthcare, libraries, water infrastructure, and municipal parks and recreation centers.
Governor Polis emphasized that he will not sign any legislation passed during the special session until he receives confirmation from the Colorado Secretary of State that Proposition 108 and Initiative 50 have been withdrawn from the ballot.
