Governor Jared Polis has called a special session of the Colorado state legislature to address property tax relief, set to begin Monday. The governor said the session is in response to two ballot measures—Proposition 108 and Initiative 50—set for the November ballot. He warned that these measures could jeopardize funding for critical education services across the state.
House Speaker Julie McCluskie echoed these concerns, noting that the ballot initiatives could also lead to defunding essential services, including fire response, healthcare, libraries, water infrastructure, and municipal parks and recreation centers.
Governor Polis is seeking a compromise during the special session and emphasized that he would not sign any legislation passed during the session until the Colorado Secretary of State confirms that Proposition 108 and Initiative 50 have been removed from the ballot.
