Governor Jared Polis announced yesterday that he will convene a special session of the Colorado state legislature to address property tax relief. The session is scheduled to begin on Monday, August 26th.

Polis explained that the special session is necessary due to two upcoming ballot measures—Proposition 108 and Initiative 50—that could threaten funding for critical public services across the state. He emphasized that these measures, if passed, would significantly impact education funding in Colorado.

House Speaker Julie McCluskie echoed the governor’s concerns, noting that the ballot initiatives would also lead to reduced funding for fire response, healthcare, libraries, water infrastructure, municipal parks, and recreation centers.

Governor Polis stated that he will not sign any legislation passed during the special session until he receives confirmation from the Colorado Secretary of State that Proposition 108 and Initiative 50 have been withdrawn from the November ballot.
