Prosecutors plan to extend the timeline for Jon and Carie Hallford, owners of the Return to Nature Funeral Home, to accept a state plea deal related to a scheme involving 190 decomposing bodies. The couple, who face 260 state criminal charges including abuse of a corpse, money laundering, forgery, and theft, had initially planned to plead guilty after being offered a federal plea deal of 15 years in prison.
The District Attorney’s Office is requesting another plea date for the Hallfords. The current state plea deal offers Caire Hallford a recommendation of 15-20 years in prison if she pleads guilty to 190 counts of abusing a corpse. Jon Hallford’s plea deal involves pleading guilty to the same charges for a recommended sentence of 20 years.
The couple are set to return to court tomorrow to address the charges.
