Winter Storm Warning in Effect Through Monday, January 15th

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect through Monday, Jan. 15th. Strong winds and heavy snow will impact the mountains through the weekend.

Heavy snow is expected in the mountains with additional snow accumulations of 1 to 2 feet across the Sawatch and Mosquito ranges with 6 to 12 inches for Central Lake County through Monday. Winds gusting as high as 80 mph across the high elevations with gusts up to 50 across the lower elevations. Wind gusting up to 50 mph higher elevations with gusts up to 30 mph across the lower elevations tonight through Monday.

Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Widespread blowing snow will significantly reduce visibility. Very strong winds could cause tree damage or damage to infrastructure. The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 35 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.

Salida and Buena Vista will see a high of 27. A low of 17.
The San Luis Valley can expect a high of 23, a low of 11.
Leadville and Fairplay look for a high of 11 with a low of 5.
