The U.S. Forest Service will begin removing the Lake George Dam later this summer. The purpose of the project is to remove the obsolete dam and improve fish habitat.

Colorado State University built the dam in the 1950’s as part of the Trans Mountain Water Diversion Project, but the dam hasn’t been used in more than thirty years and is said to be a barrier to fish migration.

Public access to the area will be closed beginning on Sunday, July 23rd, with the project anticipated to be complete by the end of the year.
