The Leadville Ranger District of the U.S. Forest Service is implementing forest health treatments starting this week below Sugarloaf Dam near Turquoise Lake. This project, covering nearly 14,000 acres, aims to improve forest resilience against insect infestations and high-intensity wildfires for the next 20 to 30 years.

Due to the operations, Forest Service Road 113 and the area south of the road will be closed through December 15th. These thinning efforts are part of broader initiatives to maintain healthy forest ecosystems and mitigate fire risks.
