This weekend, August 2nd and 3rd will find Buena Vista filled with the sights and sounds of great music. The “Jazz Along the Arkansas” BV Bands Benefit will be held at Valley Fellowship Church, 608 S. San Juan In Buena Vista. 5:00 Friday Aug. 2rd will start things off with the EQUINOX Jazz Trio before “AN EVENING OF JAZZ AND FILM”. At 7:00 “The Benny Goodman Story” will be screened as originally shown in theatres. The evening concludes at 9:00 with a showing of the Animated film “Blue Giant” based on an award-winning book series about an up and coming Jazz Artist.
Saturday Aug. 3rd will bring 11 hours of non-stop jazz performances by some great local and national artists. Performances begin at 11:00 with THE CRESTONE JAZZ TRIO from Colorado Springs, followed at 1:30 with EQUINOX AND FRIENDS, 3:00 brings the authentic sounds of New Orleans to the festival with the amazing SECRET SIX JAZZ BAND. At 4:00 there will be a special performance by the Buena Vista HS/MS Marching Demon Band with the debut of their 2024 production “A NIGHT IN BUENOS AIRES”. A Swing Dance and Dinner follows featuring “The Jazz Merchants Big Band and Guests performing the music of Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller and many others. The fabulous BASILARIUS from New Mexico follows at 6:00 and the evening concludes with a performance by “THE JAZZ MERCHANTS BIG BAND” performing the music of: The Beatles, Chicago, Earth, Wind & Fire, Snarky Puppy, Steeley Dan, Stevie Wonder and many more.
All performances will be held in the auditorium of Valley Fellowship Church, 608 S. San Juan in Buena Vista. The event is FREE to the public with DONATIONS ACCEPTED with all proceeds going to support the BVHS/MS Instrumental Music Programs. Come out and support music in our schools and experience some truly great live music performances.
