A fire broke out yesterday afternoon north of Fairplay in the Valley of the Sun Subdivision. Residents in the area were evacuated to the Park County Fairgrounds.  

Since then, the Park County Sheriff’s Office allowed many residents to return home except those living on Porcupine Road.   

The 2-acre fire has not damaged any structures and no injuries were reported.   

Multiple fire districts were quick to respond.   

A number of uncontained wildfires are burning in Colorado today, mostly on the dry Western Slope.   

The Oil Springs fire has burned about 5,000 acres in Rio Blanco County southwest of Rangely.   

The Trail Canyon Fire was started by a lightning strike on Friday and has grown to nearly 900 acres southeast of Mesa Verde National Park and the city of Cortez.   

The 180 acre Sylvan Fire is burning in rural Eagle County about 12 miles south of Gypsum.   

The Muddy Slide Fire has burned at least 100 acres in the Routt National Forest south of Steamboat Springs.   

Over 20 counties in Colorado have implemented fire restrictions.
