The highly anticipated FIBArk Whitewater Festival begins tonight, bringing a wave of excitement to the Whitewater and Riverside Parks in downtown Salida. The festival will run through Sunday, offering a range of activities and events for participants and spectators alike.
Due to exceptionally high water levels, several river competitions have been cancelled to ensure the safety of all involved. The cancelled events include the Crazy River Dog, Downriver Race (Novice category only), surf competition, and the SUP Cross. The Salida Fire Department will make a decision early Saturday morning regarding the fate of the popular Hooligan Race.
Despite these cancellations, the FIBArk Whitewater Festival still promises a weekend packed with fun and festivities. Attendees can enjoy live music, food vendors, arts and crafts, and numerous land-based events that celebrate the rich history and spirit of FIBArk, which stands for “First in Boating on the Arkansas.”
Festival organizers are prioritizing safety while ensuring that there is still plenty to enjoy. The community is encouraged to come out and participate in the festivities, support local businesses, and experience the vibrant atmosphere that FIBArk brings to Salida every year.
