East Canyon Fire Grows to 3,000 Acres

The East Canyon Fire, burning west of Durango has grown to 3,000 acres with just 5 percent containment.

The fire broke out Sunday after a thunderstorm moved through the area.

The fire is burning on BLM and private lands in both Montezuma and La Plata counties.

The Colorado Department of Public Health issued an air quality health advisory for much of southwest Colorado yesterday.

Smoke from the East Canyon Fire, along with fires burning in northern Arizona, is causing hazy conditions in our area.
