The District Attorney for the 11th Judicial District told county commissioners of the district this week that she will not seek re-election in 2024.

Linda Stanley said she made the decision more than a year ago.

Stanley made the announcement Monday during a budget meeting with commissioners from all four counties in the 11th judicial district. Stanley met with the commissioners from Chaffee, Fremont, Custer and Park counties to go over next year’s proposed budget and to ask for a 5% increase in funding. The DA’s office currently receives $2.4 million from the four counties.

Chaffee County Commissioner Greg Felt voiced concerns about the DA’s office budget saying, “Not only do the numbers on your conceptual budget not add up, but you’re also operating on what appears to be a massive deficit and you’re about out of money.”

The office has $118,000 in the bank.

Commissioners will meet again with Stanley and her bookkeepers October 23rd to further discuss the proposed 2024 budget.
