The Decker Fire received only a trace of snow yesterday and didn’t have much of an impact.

Higher humidity, however, did keep the fire from growing much.  All operations continued as usual.

The Decker Fire is listed today at 7,034 acres with 15 percent containment. 904 firefighting personnel are currently working the fire using 30 engines, 4 dozers and 8 aircraft.

Crews made more progress in expanding, holding and improving completed fire lines.  That included the use of firing operations (shown in the photo) to reduce ground fuels in the Rainbow trail area.

Firefighter safety in this cold weather is a top priority, and crews are taking extra care to stay warm.

The Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service, along with Chaffee and Fremont Counties all remain under Stage II Fire Restrictions

Multiple road closures remain in effect around the Decker Fire in Chaffee, Fremont and Saguache Counties.

The Colorado Department of Transportation has issued a speed reduction of 40 mph on Highway 50 east of Salida and on Highway 285 south out of Poncha Springs over Poncha Pass.
