Smoke from within the perimeter of the Decker Fire was visible yesterday, reminding us that despite the snow, the fire continues to burn.
Fire managers expect this will continue to occur, because some pockets of large, heavy fuels remain hot and dry enough to retain heat. As the snow continues to fall this winter, there will eventually be enough moisture to cool these larger pockets of heavy fuel.
70 firefighters with the Type 3 Team remain in Salida to manage the Decker Fire.
