A bill to repeal the death penalty has been filed in the Colorado Senate.  The lead sponsors are Democrat Senator Julie Gonzales and Republican Senator Jack Tate.

The death penalty hasn’t been handed down by a jury in Colorado in nearly 20 years.

21 states have done away with the death penalty, Colorado would become the 22nd. Every previous year that the bill has been introduced to lawmakers, it hasn’t passed. However, since Democrats currently control both the House and Senate the repeal is expected to pass.
