A Custer County inmate is being treated after a suicide attempt this week at the detention facility.  

Custer County Sheriff Shannon Byerly said that at 2 am Tuesday, Jeremy Alan Pierce was found hung above his bunk using a jail issued bedsheet.  He reportedly was being held in the cell alone at the time of the incident.  

Pierce was freed and emergency medical services personnel responded to provide treatment.  Pierce as taken to the Parkview Hospital in Pueblo, where he continues to be treated for injuries and is expected to survive. 

Pierce was arrested March 22 on a violation of a mandatory protection order stemming from an incident at the Antler’s Motel in Westcliffe.   

The Custer County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the apparent suicide attempt.  The Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the 11th Judicial District Attorney’s Office are assisting.
