On May 18th, 2023, Salida Superintendent David Blackburn represented the Salida School District at the Colorado State Capital to accept two very exciting awards for the District.
The Crest Academy was honored with the John Irwin Award which is based on high achievement. Kristie Servis, Principal at The Crest Academy, said “all of the students and staff at Crest have worked so hard throughout the year and are incrediby deserving of such a great achievement! We are thankful for all of the district and community support.” The Crest Academy is Salida School District’s alternative middle school program for grades 5-8.
Longfellow Elementary School received The Governors Distinguished improvement award, which is based on growth scores between 3rd and 4th grade. LES Principal Cory Scheffel also expressed his pride for the dedication of his students and staff.
Superintendent Blackburn shared “I am deeply proud of our staff and kiddos who keep performing so well.”
These awards are especially exciting following the academic challenges presented by the pandemic.
