The court released videos yesterday showing Barry Morphew during the initial search for Suzanne Morphew, who was reported missing on May 20, 2020, near Maysville.

Body-worn camera footage shown in court Tuesday was released to the public yesterday. The videos show Chaffee County deputies speaking to Barry Morphew during the search for his missing 49-year-old wife.

Barry Morphew has been charged with first-degree murder in her death. Her body has yet to be found.

Morphew pleaded not guilty to the charge and was released on a $500,000 cash bond. His trial is being moved to Fremont County after the court decided he could not receive a fair trial in Chaffee County.

Of the four videos released yesterday, the one labeled Exhibit 1D provides a glimpse into Barry Morphew’s initial reactions upon learning from deputies that his wife’s bicycle was located.

Suzanne was reported to have left her home on a bicycle on Mother’s Day 2020 and never returned.  Her bike was found three days later.

The Exhibit 1D video shows Morphew driving up in a pickup and stopping as a deputy flags him down. Barry gets out of the truck and asks the deputy, “where is it, where’s the bike?”

He is told by the deputy that his wife’s bike was found down an embankment just off the side of the road. Barry then asks, “is it a crash?” Then Barry asks if it was a possible mountain lion attack.

Toward the end of the video, the deputy tells other investigators, in a hushed voice, that “he didn’t seem very distraught.”

Barry Morphew’s murder trial is set to begin May 3rd in the Fremont County Courthouse.

The video was released February 2nd via Denver7 – The Denver Channel.
