The Chaffee County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) has adopted new Landfill dump fee rates for in-county users for bulk concrete, construction dirt, yard waste/brush, and a minimum fee for bagged household trash.

Landfill usage and volume of construction waste has
continued to increase since the fees were last updated in August 2017, prompting the updates as set forth in Chaffee County Resolution 2021-28 at the BOCC meeting on March 2, 2021.

These new rates become effective April 1, 2021.
In order to simplify operations and help relieve traffic congestion at the Landfill, the department is modifying its approach to bagged household trash. The bagged household waste category will now be structured to include a minimum charge of $10.00 per load for in-county users
(maximum of five bags and up to 300 pounds per load). Previously, the Landfill fee structure allowed for a per-bag drop-off cost of $2.00 per bag of household trash, which contributed to a high volume of traffic to the Landfill site, vehicle back-ups, and difficulties between user groups.
This change to a minimum of $10.00 per load of bagged household trash for in-county users is intended to help streamline transactions and reduce vehicular traffic, improving safety and efficiency at the Landfill for both customers and Landfill staff. Rates remain at $10.00 per bag of
household trash, and minimum transaction fee of $20.00, for out-of-county users.

Additionally, the Landfill’s concrete dump rate for in-county users has increased from $26.00 to $40.00 per ton, and the rate for construction dirt and brush/yard waste for in-county users has also increased from $26.00 to $40.00 per ton. Concrete remains at $175 per ton for out-of-county users. Chaffee County’s 2019 waste audit report showed that concrete comprised
7% (almost 1,600 tons) and construction waste comprised 28% of waste received at the County Landfill, for a combined total of nearly 35% of all waste sent to the Landfill in 2019. Because of limited capacity within the Landfill site, the County encourages concrete recycling with ACA
Products or other concrete recycling sites when possible to divert this material from the waste stream.
