County Commissioners in Chaffee, Fremont, and Custer Counties have filed a joint civil lawsuit against Linda Stanley, the former 11th Judicial District Attorney, following her disbarment. The suit accuses Stanley, in her individual capacity, of fraud and civil theft, alleging misuse of taxpayer funds.
The lawsuit, filed on Monday, seeks to recover nearly $112,000 in taxpayer money that Stanley is accused of using to cover legal fees incurred during an ethics trial. This trial stemmed from allegations that she and her staff violated the Colorado Rules of Professional Conduct.
Park County may join the lawsuit at a later date at their discretion.
The counties aim to hold Stanley accountable for the misallocation of public funds intended for government operations, not personal legal defense.
